Introduction. In 1965, Brandon published the article "Selected List of Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library". During the 1970s, Hill became involved in the "Brandon List". Over time the "Brandon List" slowly began to evolve into the "Brandon-Hill List". The List is still being used throughout the world, and updated every two years. The purpose of this pilot study is to provide a list of journals that should be subscribed by the medical library of a respiratory diseases hospital.

Method. The sample consisted of 60 Brandon-Hill List journals, published may 1997, excluded those with titles on respiratory diseases or a specific non-related title (v.g. Ann Nuerol). The number of respiratory-related articles was evaluated for each journal.

Results. Only the title Arch Environ Health had > 40% of respiratory diseases-related articles.

Conclusions. The list of journals that should be subscribed by the medical library of a respiratory diseases hospital is: Am J Respir Crit Care Med; Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol; Ann Thorac Surg; Arch Environ Health; Chest; and J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg.
